White-Walled Fort

I would wither within this white-walled fort

Built resistant through my contemplation

And, picking my own pieces up

Destroy a little bit of the light

That still holds inside my heart

I would pace back and forth

Letting solitude’s cold hand be

My companion

Questions I have asked

Have gone unanswered

My appeal falls on deaf ears

I don’t give up-

For fear of the gathering mist

And so

I would wither within this white-walled fort

Built resistant through my contemplation
